Anyone have any idea to compare these high-throughput computing framework? They're mostly the same at the end of the day, it's more a question of 1 choosing something that will still be supported in years the various SGEs keep losing support and 2 finding someone locally willing to administer it.

slurm vs sge

We switched from one of the umpteen SGE variants to Slurm a few years ago and are pretty happy. It's still getting regular updates and is widely used, so it's not going anywhere. The same can be said from Torque and LSF. HTCondor is a bit different, since most people would only use that if they need some of its more specialized features e. BTW, regarding hadoop yarn, I imagine that'd be most useful if your cluster used hadoop. There are vanishingly few bioinformatics applications that natively support hadoop, so I'm not really sure you'd end up gaining anything except headaches.

The "best" will probably depend on the size and architecture of your computing grid, and on the technical staff at hand to manage it. For more information, please fill out the request form and we will respond as soon as possible. One feature that Slurm offers that I can't recall if our older SGE setup offered is the ability to submit arrays of jobs, which is useful for simulation or permutation tests Monte Carlo etc. We've had some pains with Slurm, mainly due to configuring the fair-share priority mechanism and some other parameters that made less effective use of the cluster than desired, when a lot of jobs are thrown at it.

We also have some job submission timeout issues that it is hard to find out much about online. This seems to be a not-uncommon problem with Slurm deployments. No one seems to know what the problem is. I'd definitely suggest looking into an ironclad support contract of some kind, regardless of what scheduler you go with.

Also, put the cluster through its paces with various levels of load testing from the start, to figure out what needs tweaking for your setup. Best in terms of features is probably LSF which is not cheap and probably the reason it is not on your list. Log In. Welcome to Biostar! Please log in to add an answer. As you see, the user experience is very similar. I think SGE is no more, and you need to use now something called Univa. My first choice for a queuing system was torque. I chose torque somehow on a egoistic base: I used it before, therefore I was expecting a shorter learning curve.

To list the nodes, on the login node type pbsnodes -a A sample output will show a long list of nodes with information about them. Firs you have the job management. The jobs are better handled, they can run independently of the openmpi installation, and if you compile slurm with the right options, you will be able to store the job results on a MySQL database.

Second you have the software dependencies. If you need to use a specific openmpi and I need to you need to have torque compiled with it.

Migration from SGE to Slurm

That is not the case of slurmthat can work with the corresponding module. So which one is your favorite? Or even better, which one do you think is performing better?

When we run out of jars, we store leftovers in bowls with saucers on top instead of plastic wrap.

Bowls with saucers are great for stacking. We also use Anchor glass refrigerator containers to store daily portions of our homemade cat food. More on that below. The key to freezing foods in glass is not to fill the jar too full, since the food will expand inside the container. The other caveat is not to heat the glass too quickly. Let foods thaw at room temperature to avoid glass breakage.

Another option for the refrigerator or freezer are the flat-topped airtight stainless steel containers from Life Without Plastic. Their flat top makes them easy to stack and the fact that they are airtight means food can be stored longer. Read about my favorite container here. You can also learn to can foods in glass jars or dehydrate produce to keep through the winter. I did question whether it was better to donate these unhealthy items or to trash them.

Turns out, our Oaklandwater is fine without a filter. So we can avoid plastic water filter cartridges from now on. For those who do need to filter their water, Brita has teamed up with Preserve to create a way to recycle the plastic cartridges. All prepared soy milk cartons contain plastic.

I squeeze fresh lemon and lime juice and keep it in glass jars in the refrigerator. And we make our own hummus, either from dried chick peas or from the dry mix in the bulk bin at Whole Foods. I have no problem acquiring second-hand plastic. I also look for items made from recycled plastic, for the same reason.

This solves several plastic problems. Lately, though, I have not had the time or energy to maintain my compost bin. But here in Oakland(as well as Berkeley and San Francisco) we have city-wide composting. We can put all of our food scraps (including meat) and food-soiled paper, along with yard waste, into our green bins. Read more about collecting garbage without plastic trash bags.

More than 2,000 launches were counted in 2016, compared to just 40 per year in the 70s. Healthy growth is continuing in the global market. North America and Europe have the largest markets, however the highest growth is envisaged in Asia. Greenwashing will remain a major industry issue, with many brands opting for certification to legitimise their natural and organic marketing claims. Natural and organic will remain the main certification schemes for green cosmetics, however fragmentation is expected to continue.

Organic Monitor finds there are currently over 30 such standards for cosmetics and personal care products, with most in Europe. More investment will go into sustainable sourcing of natural ingredients. The number of ethical labels is predicted to rise this year, with more crossovers from the food industry. The range of green materials will expand this year.In this case the home team may play without having the rights of the home team.
