The success in the competition is mainly up to the skills of the driver and that driver's experience in the set up of the engine and the chassis. Competition at the national level can include additional classes at the discretion of each national RMC. This results in a fair competition between kart racers that share the same interests. Out of all national as well as continental and international series, drivers qualify for the annual RMC Grand Finals, which is an invitational race.

The Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals is by far the fairest, most international kart sporting event in the world — since all drivers have the same controlled and sealed engines, chassis, tyres and fuel — leaving only the drivers skill to determine the winner of the competition.

Every year, competitors from around 60 countries, from five continents, can qualify for the annual Grand Finals of the Rotax Max Challenge. The first edition of the Grand Finals took place in on the island of Puerto Rico with 66 drivers representing 19 countries.

Infinalists were invited to the tropical island of Langkawi in Malaysia. That year, 68 drivers from 29 countries compete for the RMC "world champion" title.

South Africa hosted the Grand Finals inon a track just outside Pretoria. Drivers from 33 different nations were vying for the gold. That year, the Junior category was introduced.

It was also the company's first time cooperating with a chassis manufacturer in order to supply comparable karts to the competitors. The Junior category raced on a 'single make' chassis supplied by CRG while the seniors raced on their private chassis. This move increased the number of participants to almostrepresenting close to 40 different countries.

The volcanic island of Lanzarote in Spain welcomed the 5th Grand Finals in That event saw for the first time all competitors racing on supplied 'single make' chassis provided by CRG for the Junior category and by BRP-Rotax for the Senior category.

This is achieved by designing the chassis so that the inside rear tire lifts up slightly when the kart turns the corner.

This allows the tire to lose some of its grip and slide or lift off the ground completely. Power is transmitted from the engine to the rear axle by a chain. Both engine and axle sprockets are removable. Their ratio must be adapted to the track configuration to obtain the most performance from the engine.

In the early days, karts were direct drive requiring push starts. The inconvenience of that configuration led to the centrifugal clutch for the club level classes. Wheels and tires are much smaller than those used on a normal car.

After its first full kick-off year of Rotax Racing inJ3 Competition is pleased to announce its program.Built in Austria, the engine is liquid cooled, equipped with a balance shaft, integrated water pump, electric starter and centrifugal clutch. Its combination of onboard electric starter and centrifugal clutch simplifies its operation. This concept is called TaG Touch-and-go.

The Rotax Max was introduced to karting ineasy to use and very reliable, it almost immediately began to gain market share from other slower or more expensive classes. The engine is offered in different performance configurations.

There are several different versions of the engine. The DD2 is another fully powered version which has two gears and is direct drive in that the axle goes through the engine without need for a chain.

Based on an evolution concept, each of the above configurations can be upgraded or downgraded to any of the other configurations by replacing various accessories and components. As the Rotax engine platform expanded, so did the tracks and the Rotax experience across the country. Over the last 20 years, the Rotax Grand Finals have welcomed some of the best karters from around the world. The talent level was from top level guys to year-old guys. I was one of the fastest all week.

I tested engines and karts, working my butt off for that win. That was the biggest race I had won. The next day we had to box up the kart and all the spares we thought we might need and ship that to Malaysia. My mechanic was from Australia and we worked with some of those drivers to get fast. They tested a month before so I was trying to get as much info from them. It did not go well in the main event, but I had the time of my life.

I would not change anything. This was the only one I raced at but went to more as a mechanic. The people who you meet from all over the world is something that sticks with you. Stuart Marsell also became the first podium finisher that year in DD2, however, he did not get to physically stand on the podium as he was promoted to the third position after the ceremony due to a penalty to a top-three finisher. Cooksey remains the lone USA driver to stand on the podium in his respective class, while Marsell was joined in subsequent years as a DD2 podium finisher by Cody HodgsonJoey Wimsettand Taylor Greenfield Mathias Ramirez-Barrero came five hundredths short of earning a second in in Portugal.

ByCorrea was racing Formula 4 in Europe, reaching the top step of the podium three times. This success led to him advancing to the GP3 series before running Formula 2 in as part of the Sauber Junior Team. The focus every season I competed in the USA was to obviously win races, but the second biggest goal was to get a ticket to compete in the most equal playing field and prestigious karting race in the world, the Rotax Grand Finals.

I was so proud of myself just because I made it there. The year after, when I actually won the Grand Finals, my career changed for the better, and the decisions I took after that moment and the opportunities I got are what have eventually taken me to where I am today. To this day, I consider winning the Rotax Grand Finals one of the biggest highlights of my career. That early start helped build a solid foundation for not only the Rotax program, but our success in those categories at the international level.
